CORRECT UPHOLSTERY CLEANING PROCEDURES
Cleaning upholstery can be tricky and a poorly trained technician can easily create permanent damage to upholstered furniture. This is because upholstery fabrics vary widely in construction and in fiber content and weave. Understanding this is the first step in safe and effective upholstery cleaning. Incorporating the correct techniques and procedures will insure thorough cleaning and quick drying while eliminating the potential for bleeding, browning, shrinkage, fabric distortion and other common cleaning challenges.
Steps for proper upholstery cleaning include:
1. Pre-inspection with Fiber Identification
2. Set up with precautions taken to protect flooring and furnishings
3. Pre-vacuum to remove loose soil
4. Pre-condition with fabric-appropriate cleaning solutions
5. Specialty spotting for stubborn spots and stains
6. Agitation, as needed and appropriate
7. Rinse and Extraction with low-moisture cleaning tools
8. Application of fabric protection
9. Grooming the nap, as indicated by fabric construction
10. Drying, as appropriate for fabric content and weave
