Description
American Cockroach - Periplaneta Americana

The American cockroach is known by many common names: "Bombay canary", "water bug", "palmetto bug", and many other unprintable expletives. It is the largest of the house-infecting cockroaches, being 1.5 inches long with fully developed reddish brown wings and light marking on the thorax. The sexes are almost identical in size. The females average 1.33 inches and the males 1.25 inches.

The cockroach is commonly found in sewers and basements, particularly around pipes. Egg capsules are often glued to surfaces. The incubation period is 38 to 49 days. The number of egg cases produced by the female is between 6 to 14, with an average of 9.5. The eggs in the egg case are in two parallel rows and the number of eggs in each case average at 16 eggs.

The American cockroach is commonly found in restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries and any facility where food is prepared or stored. It is also common in many types of buildings, including factories, hospitals, hotels, and zoos. Basically, you can come across them anywhere.

American cockroaches have been found flying around street lights. They are active throughout the year where the temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
